Transformational ConceptsThe Basics

Located in Tucson, Arizona, Transformational Concepts facilitates the Discovery Project, a holistic, non-12-step Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for men and women suffering from opiate addiction, including painkillers and Suboxone. It employs natural detox to ease withdrawal symptoms and treatment is individualized for each client.

Treatment and Staff

After the completion and submission of an extensive intake form, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment with staff. The intake fee is $20 but it is applied towards the program’s cost. Those who decide against enrollment don’t receive a refund.

Transformational Concepts is open seven days a week and can therefore accommodate most clients’ schedules. Upon arrival, individuals undergo all-inclusive physicals that include blood work and saliva kits. Treatment length including detox can last up to 13 weeks. A minimum nine-week commitment is required.

A board certified physician supervises the detox process; which can include IV therapy, digital infrared thermal imaging (DITI), acupuncture, chiropractic work, massage and weight training. A naturopathic physician provides myofascial release, which is an alternative treatment to pain management.

At Transformational Concepts, metaphysical modalities along with evidence-based practices, including CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the Matrix Model are employed. Metaphysical practices include shamanism, meditation, yoga and Tai Chi. Facilitators utilize the teachings of Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle and Debbie Ford, as well as the writings of other spiritual gurus.

Weekly treatment is made up of educational classes, yoga, breath work, meditation, art therapy, expressive writing, massage, and individual therapy. Classes include spirituality, anger, Meeting your Inner Child, Cycle of Addiction, shame and guilt, healthy relationships, relapse prevention, energy healing, music therapy and Miquel Ruiz’ The Four Agreements.

A typical newcomer’s evening curriculum starts with a physical exam at 5 pm Mondays, followed by a 6:15 pm one-on-one session with a counselor. Tuesday evenings include individual therapy, a workout and hypnotherapy. On Wednesdays at 8 am, blood work and a saliva kit are conducted. Later that evening, there is a 6:15 pm hypnotherapy session, followed by counseling. Other scheduled activities include group therapy, massages and chiropractic work.

There are 20 staff members including a life coach, fitness instructor, Master’s-level yoga therapist, clinical hypnotherapist/Reiki Master/Teacher, nutritionist, minister, acupuncturist, massage therapist, yoga and integrative breathing instructor, a medical assistant, educator, physician and administrative support.

Extras

Besides the Discovery Project, Transformational Concepts treats clients suffering from depression and offers a dual diagnosis program for LGBTQ clients.

In Summary

With so many holistic offerings, Transformational Concepts is a gem for addicts looking to connect with their shakras while they recover from the damages of opioid abuse. For clients who want to to take the path of AA/NA or utilize Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), this might not be the right fit. Otherwise this program could serve as a solid, unique alternative to traditional, more commonly used therapeutic approaches.
