The Basics
TR Addiction Treatment Centres is an outpatient treatment facility for adults struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders in Toronto, Canada. TR Addiction Treatment Centres is the outpatient branch of a network of three facilities that treat addiction in the Toronto area, including Trafalgar Residence and Rice Lake Residence. TR offers aftercare for the two residential facilities as well as stand-alone outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), individual and family therapy. All three facilities are led by Dr. Christine Courbasson, a psychologist who specializes in addiction and previously worked at the largest mental health and substance abuse treatment center in Canada.
Treatment and Staff
Before treatment begins, potential clients go through an initial assessment that helps the staff determine what level of care is necessary. Those in need of detox or residential care are offered referrals. The exact length and intensity of the program is determined on individual need. The IOP level is appropriate for clients leaving one of the residential programs or those who may not need the structure of 24-hour care.
IOP is a four-week program consisting of a total of 12 individual sessions, four private family counseling sessions, daily skills groups and accompanying daily process groups. Clients receive 19 hours a week of individual and group therapy and are eligible to participate in weekly aftercare sessions for the following 12 weeks. Individual therapy can be scheduled at the convenience of clients. Groups are available at designated days and times, Monday through Friday. After successful completion of IOP, it is typical for clients to step down to the outpatient level, with less frequent individual and group sessions until recovery goals have been satisfied.
TR Addiction Treatment Centres employs evidence-based practices, such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). All clients are offered recommendations for off-site 12-step meetings as part of their program. For clients who need dual diagnosis support, specialized groups and medication management are available as necessary.
In addition to Dr. Courbasson, the TR Addiction Treatment Centres team consists of Master’s-level counselors and a CSW, as well as administrative support staff.

Aftercare sessions are available on Thursdays between 7 and 8:30 pm.
