The Basics
Founded in 1997, Towson Addictions Center is an intimate outpatient substance abuse treatment center in Towson, Maryland. While they don’t offer an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), they provide a light curriculum of treatment services and specialize in dual diagnosis support, as well as provide education and treatment services for criminal justice clients.
Treatment and Staff
Towson Addictions Center utilizes a traditional psychotherapy approach during treatment. Prior to admission, an in-person assessment with Dr. Paul Berman, director of the drug rehab, is completed. Clients receive individualized treatment plans, with weekly treatment including individual therapy scheduled per client’s needs and one gender-specific group session. Besides traditional psychotherapy, evidence-based approaches such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are used during treatment.
Gender-specific tracks are offered during Towson’s 26 weeks outpatient programs. The women’s track is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and the men’s groups are from 6 to 7:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Groups are kept small, usually between six and eight clients and topics include relapse prevention, stress management, and co-occurring disorders.
Initial cost for a one-hour evaluation is $180. The out-of-pocket cost for individual therapy is often based on income, but usually averages about $75 a session. Group therapy costs $45 per session.
The staff includes Dr. Paul Berman who is a Master’s-level psychologist with over 25 years of experience in treating clients suffering from chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. Besides Berman, there are two CADCs and an office manager.
Extras
Towson Addictions Center specializes in helping clients who have DUI/DWI and other related cases. They offer a six-week drug and alcohol education course from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Mondays.
In Summary
Towson Addictions Center’s outpatient program offers a light treatment schedule for those seeking help without interrupting their work or family lives. This who need more structure should find a rehab that offers and IOP program. Towson might best serve clients who have a little more time under their belt, or perhaps a client who seeks a program in conjunction with another recovery protocol.
