The Basics
Total Recovery Now, an outpatient substance abuse facility about 10 miles south of Palm Beach, combines 12-step principles and practices with a holistic, evidence-based curriculum to treat substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Founded in 2010 by CEO Gabrielle Smith in the belief that outpatient treatment is better suited to integrating clients back into society than residential, the rehab’s mission is to help clients learn how to meet “life on life’s terms.” Besides outpatient treatment, Total Recovery Now provides a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and aftercare.
Treatment and Staff
Clients range in age from 18 to 55 and receive individualized treatment plans. Based on the Matrix Model, program length is ideally 16 weeks, but may vary per client. Evening and morning sessions are available for IOP and outpatient clients, while PHP clients are provided 20 hours of day and evening care. On a weekly basis, IOP is nine hours, and outpatient varies from one to eight hours.
Weekly treatment includes individual therapy, four group sessions, educational seminars and attendance at local AA, CA and NA meetings. Transportation is provided.
Groups vary between eight to 10 clients (mornings) and 10 to 15 clients (evenings). Topics include CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Psychodynamic Processing, life skills, relapse prevention, anger management, behavior issues, sound therapy and Recovery Dynamics. EMDR and detox referrals are provided for appropriate clients.
Educational sessions cover the Oxford Group principles, absolute principles (from the Big Book), Joe and Charlie tapes, nutrition and other health issues. Clients work with sponsors and complete step work.
Besides Smith, who has about 23 years of sobriety, all employees are in recovery. The highly credentialed staff includes CSACs and two medical doctors. The staff-to-client ratio is one-to-five and Total Recovery Now is certified by the Kelly Foundation to provide recovery dynamics therapy.
Extras
Total Recovery Now provides family support therapy, hypnotherapy, yoga, Qi Gong, art and writing therapy, movement therapy, spiritual counseling and gender-specific counseling. Aftercare is provided per client’s needs.
The rehab also treats gambling and eating disorders. Peer support is offered to bulimic clients and, if appropriate, outside referrals are made.
For clients who attend evening sessions, dinner is provided on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Meals include pizza and pasta.
