With two locations near Washington, DC in Vienna, Virginia and Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, Total Health Concepts is a treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders as well as eating disorders and co-occurring mental health issues like depression and trauma. Founded in 1986 by Virginia Inglese, a psychotherapist, dietitian and eating disorder specialist, Total Health Concepts offers a multi-faceted approach to care that integrates a number of therapeutic methods including counseling services, life coaching, nutrition therapy, psychoeducation, holistic models, experiential therapies and skill building classes. Services are provided at the standard outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) levels. Total Health Concepts primarily facilitates counseling and holistic approaches. As such, 12-step recovery and medication management are not components of the programming.
Treatment and Staff
Men and women entering treatment at Total Health Concepts first undergo a comprehensive physical and psychological health assessment to help the staff determine the most effective care plan personalized to the specific needs and goals of the client. Total Health Concepts believes in addressing the root causes of issues rather than merely “fixing symptoms.” To this end, the facility employs an integrative approach to care that combines a number of methods including life coaching, holistic methods, evidence-based practices and experiential models. Clients struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders as well as eating disorders are encouraged to participate in the IOP. Participants can expect individual, group and family therapy rooted in evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Total Health Concepts has focus groups and workshops on body image, empowerment, mindful eating and nutrition education as well as yoga, meditation and journaling.
As previously mentioned, Total Health Concepts integrates life coaching into the programming. Clients learn self-care, coping strategies and life skills. The treatment team also places a premium on physical health with an emphasis on relaxation, healthy socializing and creating a rewarding exercise curriculum. Workshop topics include weight management, stress relief, empowerment, team building and improving energy. The facility also provides therapy for older and younger populations with groups focusing on retirement and early age behavioral issues. Teens and young adults participate in classes on self-esteem, improving communication and setting boundaries.
The Total Health Concepts team is comprised of psychotherapists, registered dietitians, specialists in eating disorders, CSWs, mental health counselors and nutrition specialists.
In addition to in-person individual and group therapy, the facility also offers home visits and can be reached over FaceTime or via Skype.
Total Health Concepts boasts a range of outpatient therapeutic services for clients of all ages struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders as well as eating disorders and mental health problems. Individualized treatment programs are tailored to the unique needs of the individual with the goal of treating the root cause or causes of the issue. Total Health utilizes an approach that includes evidence-based therapies, life coaching, and holistic and experiential models. For clients in the Virginia and Maryland areas seeking comprehensive programming, Total Health Concepts is an excellent resource.
