The Basics
Torrington Sober Houses is a sober living organization based in Torrington, Connecticut. Founded in 1999, it now operates four sober living houses for men, all of which aim to provide a harmonious and abstinent environment for clients to continue to build their newly sober lives.
Accommodations and Amenities
Torrington’s four houses are Main Street House, Taylor Street House, Alpha House and North Elm Street House. They are a mix of traditional colonial- and farmhouse-style single-family homes in a quiet residential neighborhood. All four are tidy with pleasant curb appeal and are located within a few blocks of each other, enabling the men to build a strong, sober community.
Main Street, Taylor Street and North Elm Street all have six single-occupancy bedrooms while the Alpha House has seven singles and one double-occupancy room. The houses all have two shared bathrooms and the beds are a mix of both singles and doubles.
Each house has a large kitchen with two fridges. Torrington supplies cable TV as well as a computer with Internet access for communal use and a landline with free domestic calls. All homes also have on-site washers and dryers for client use.
Each of the houses has a live-in manager, a long-term resident who has proven sobriety. Residents are responsible for their own food, meal preparation and transportation costs.
Rules and Regulations
Torrington requires residents to find employment while living in the houses but due to the slow local economy, no deadline is enforced.
Residents must attend a minimum of four AA/NA meetings per week. They regularly carpool to these meetings and attend them together as a group.
All homes have a curfew of 11 pm weeknights and 1:30 am on weekends.
The house manager regularly performs drug and Breathalyzer tests on residents to ensure sobriety. The manager will also call a house meeting to resolve any roommate issues or household disputes. The houses do not have a minimum or maximum length of stay.
