The Basics
Located in the town of Helotes, Texas, about 30 miles north of San Antonio, The Texas House is a structured transitional living facility for men. The Texas House is not a traditional rehab or a sober living home, but something in between. The facility was designed for high-functioning professionals who need to remain in contact with the outside world during treatment. This facility offers each resident individual therapy, psychiatry and personal fitness services, all in the comfort of a luxurious, secluded home. The Texas House’s treatment also includes 12-step programming.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Texas House is a beautiful, modern 7,000 square foot home with lots of brick and wood. It can accommodate no more than 10 clients, in four spacious double or triple-occupancy rooms, each with its own bathroom. The bedrooms include full or queen beds topped with stylish comforters, nightstands, lamps and dressers.
The house includes a fully equipped kitchen, huge living room and dining area.
A private chef cooks three hearty dinners per week. The rest of the time residents are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation.
Other amenities include WiFi, TVs with cable, a game room with a pool table, a home theater room and free laundry facilities. House managers live on the premises.
Rules and Regulations
Typically, The Texas House accepts men who have been through detox or are already physically stable. Potential applicants undergo a comprehensive interview. Upon acceptance, new clients undergo an orientation session with the director to develop an individualized treatment plan.
While living at The Texas House, residents must attend the weekly house meeting and participate in all recommended activities. Clients must also attend a minimum of three weekly 12-step meetings. Each client has a slightly different routine, based on their work responsibilities and treatment plans. Typically clients requiring dual diagnosis support attend individual psychiatric appointments weekly. Recovery coaching is available one-on-one and in a group setting. Groups address life skills, addiction education and physical health. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted and residents who relapse must leave the premises immediately to ensure the safety of the household.
Extras
The house includes a fitness center and the men have access to a personal trainer several times a week. The men are often taken on fun sober outings including movies, golf, restaurants, local parks and other recovery fellowship activities.
