The Basics
Founded in 1992 by CEO Michael L. Hudspeth in Los Angeles, California, the Miracle Institute now known as the Solutions Alcohol and Drug Recovery Foundation DBA The Solutions Foundation, provides substance abuse education, outpatient treatment, interventions and aftercare for men and women struggling from chemical dependency. It also offers a Youth Empowerment program that teaches adolescents and young adults how to live clean and sober lives.
Treatment and Staff
The Solution Foundation operates on a three-phase system: Stabilization, Training and Understanding and Reintegration. Each phase lasts between two and four months, depending on the client’s progress. Prior to admission, clients undergo comprehensive assessments and receive individualized treatment plans, which are reevaluated and updated every 90 days.
During the stabilization phase, those requiring detox are provided with medical referrals. Clients in need of sober living, food and clothing are connected with the appropriate resources. The Solution Foundation operates on the premise that a client’s basic needs must be met to ensure a successful outcome in recovery. After these issues are resolved, clients embark on the second phase.
Phase two includes an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), made up of daily group therapy, individual therapy and attendance at 12-step meetings. Group topics include step work, anger management, cognitive thinking, relapse prevention, health and drug education. During this phase, loved ones are encouraged to participate because The Solution Foundation believes that family involvement leads to healthier family dynamics. Groups range between 10 and 15 clients.
Phase three teaches the recovery tools necessary for clients to smoothly reintegrate back into society. During this time, they acquire life skills, receive vocational guidance and are provided intensive readiness skills. Upon successful completion of each phase, clients obtain certificates and participate in graduation ceremonies.
Dual diagnosis support is offered during individual therapy and clients requiring medication for co-occurring disorders receive psychiatric evaluations.
The 12-month youth program, for clients between the ages of 12 and 21, provides substance abuse education, group counseling, individual therapy and weekly meetings with the staff’s medical director.
Besides Hudspeth who is an ordained minister, staff includes a chief-financial officer/co-partner, administrative assistant, an MFT intern, medical director, licensed clinical psychologist, program manager, seven youth counselors and seven CADCs for the adult program.
Extras
The Solutions Foundation offers free haircuts to men and women during Self-Esteem day, an event scheduled throughout the year. Aftercare includes outpatient treatment with a less time intensive track.
In Summary
For financially challenged clients, the Solutions Foundation provides compassionate and comprehensive social services. Clients who complete all three phases are shown to have a better chance of maintaining long-term sobriety and successfully transition back into society.
