The Restoration Inn is Practical Recovery’s residential program for women struggling with dual diagnosis issues involving trauma and substance abuse. Residents are provided a holistic recovery experience combining evidence-based techniques and alternative therapies including acupuncture and regular yoga practice. Clients recover in a charming and peaceful facility in San Diego, California.

Accommodations and Food

The Restoration Inn is a tidy single-family home in a residential neighborhood that sleeps up to four women in shared bedrooms. Additionally, there is a room set aside for individual therapy sessions as well as a living room, dining room, fully equipped kitchen and outdoor seating for socialization. Clients are permitted use of their laptops and cell phones within 72 hours of admission.

An on-site executive chef prepares three hot meals a day which are enjoyed together family-style. Special dietary restrictions are accommodated on a case-by-case basis.

Treatment and Staff

Before admission, an evaluation is scheduled to determine an individualized treatment plan. Each resident’s recovery plan varies in length and consists of daily participation in yoga, one-on-one sessions, process groups, off-site SMART recovery meetings and holistic treatment options. On-site services are available for those in need of detox and medication management.

A typical day begins with breakfast, after which clients engage in 90 minutes of yoga followed by individual therapy sessions and then lunch. A two-hour process group follows lunch which is led by a licensed clinician who uses evidence-based techniques to discuss trauma, the disease of addiction, relapse prevention and coping skills. Women participate in a second individual therapy session before dinner.

Evening activities consist of off-site SMART recovery group meetings or an addiction movie and more processing. Along with these activities, guests have access to acupuncture, dance, art therapy and hypnotherapy on a weekly basis. There’s also a spiritual psychologist who works one-on-one with residents interested in the combination of spiritual and scientific elements to support their recovery process.

Staff members include LADCs, psychologists, psychiatrists and other professionals with extensive experience in dealing with addiction and mental health. Treatment techniques include CBTDBT, EDMR and somatic experiencing.

Extras

Aftercare is available at no extra cost to women who complete treatment at The Restoration Inn. Continuing care services include attendance of weekly recovery groups and periodic check-ins with a therapist over the phone. Women are also invited to alumni social gatherings.

In addition to the Restoration Inn, Practical Recovery offers an alternative co-ed residential program known as Reunion San Diego as well as a luxurious sober living home known as the Carmel Summit Retreat. Clients can also enroll in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), individual counseling and continuing care after they complete one of the Practical Recovery programs.
