San Antonio TexasThe Basics

The Restoration Center, a program of The Center for Health Care Services, provides extensive specialized outpatient treatment in El Paso, Texas. Since 1966, The Center for Health Care Services has been providing the residents of southwest Texas with treatment for mental health, substance use disorders and developmental disabilities. In addition to several outpatient tracks, The Restoration Center offers detox, inpatient and case-management services, with a special focus on the needs of clients facing homelessness, trauma and economic insecurity.

The Center for Health Care Services has received the American Psychiatric Association’s Gold Award for Community Program Innovation and the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare’s Service Excellence Award.

Treatment and Staff

Intake sessions are available on a walk-in basis each day with services also provided in Spanish. After an assessment, clients are given a treatment plan that includes group and individual therapy. Group sessions are scheduled up to five times each week, taking treatment to the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) levels. Individual therapy is scheduled as-needed. Most clients attend group therapy one to three times each week and complete their treatment track in six weeks.

The treatment team at The Restoration Center includes psychiatrists, psychologists as well as Master’s-level therapists and addiction counselors such as LPCs, LCSWs and LCDCs. In addition, The Restoration Center helps train pre- and post-doctoral psychology fellows at University of Texas in becoming behavioral health clinicians. All members of the treatment team are trained in treating co-occurring disorders and clients with significant mental health diagnoses can receive therapy and medication management from The Restoration Center’s behavioral health department.

Clinicians use a variety of evidence-based treatment practices in group and individual sessions including CBT and also follow the Matrix Model. Groups have fewer than 15 participants and up to 25 groups are scheduled each week. Clients are also encouraged to attend 12-step or other peer support meetings and are given a list of nearby AA/NA meetings.

The Restoration Center offers specialized treatment tracks for mothers (Mommies Specialized Female Outpatient Substance Abuse Program) and those affected by sexual violence (the Monarch Project). It also offers Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) at its Opioid Addiction Treatment Services (OATS) clinic. Clients can also receive primary care at the Center for Health Care Services.

Extras

Families of clients can attend individual therapy sessions if the client and therapist feel it would be beneficial. Those who have completed their treatment plan can also attend a weekly aftercare group for ongoing support. Clients facing homelessness or who need help coordinating additional care can access The Restoration Center’s case-management services.

In Summary

The Restoration Center offers highly specialized outpatient substance abuse treatment with dedicated programs for mothers, sexual violence survivors and opioid addicts. All clinicians have extensive training in treating co-occurring disorders, making it an ideal choice for those with trauma and mental health diagnoses and substance abuse issues. Combining a range of evidence based methods, credentialed staff help create a foundation of wellness to support lasting recovery.
