The Recovery Place is a sober living in North Toronto. It is available for men and women in the beginning stage of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders as well as eating disorders. The Recovery Place provides upscale accommodations and a sober environment. It seeks to guide residents to meet their true potential through life and job skill training. Founded in 2008, the abstinence-based facility employs a bio-psycho-social model of care with around-the-clock staff support and psychoeducation classes. In addition, the Recovery Place offer a 12-step component and access to partnering therapists, physicians, psychologists and psychiatrists. Clients in need of dual diagnosis support are welcome.
Accommodations and Amenities
Situated a short walk from public transportation and multiple 12-step support meetings, The Recovery Place is located in an ideal place for residents seeking both support and opportunities for employment or education. The family-style house provides accommodations for between six and eight residents, with both private and semi-private bedrooms available. Rooms are equipped with queen-sized beds, TVs and nice furnishings, including a dresser, desk and closet space. The facility also provides bedding and high speed internet. Residents enjoy large common rooms with wrap-around couches. There is an open backyard with a patio area and barbecue grill. Meals are prepared to meet the nutritional needs of the resident.
Rules and Regulations
While a the facility provides support and therapeutic services, The Recovery Place expects residents to take responsibility for their own recovery. As such, clients must be stable for a minimum of three months before entering the facility, and motivated to move forward on a new healthy path. Residents engage in weekly individual counseling and daily group sessions. There are also regular psychoeducation classes. Clients must be either looking for work, employed, attending school, volunteering or in treatment for a minimum of 24 hours a week. In addition, residents are encouraged to be involved with at least three recovery activities outside of the home, such as 12-step meetings and aftercare.
The facility has a zero tolerance policy regarding theft, violence and substance use. Staff performs regular drug and alcohol tests.
