The Recovery CenterThe Basics

The Recovery Center is a comprehensive outpatient treatment facility founded in 1934 in the beautiful coastal town of Monterey, California. Located within the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, its association with a fully equipped medical center allows it to utilize myriad behavioral health resources. The Recovery Center offers services to adult men and women struggling with substance abuse and chemical dependency in the Monterey area and beyond.

Treatment and Staff

The intake process at The Recovery Center begins with an in-person evaluation with a counselor. If the counselor believes the client is a good fit for The Recovery Center, he or she is then referred to a case manager who oversees the entire treatment process. If someone is in need of a higher level of care, outside residential or detox programs can be arranged. Clients who do not have insurance are encouraged to apply for Medical to help offset the costs of the program.

The outpatient program at The Recovery Center lasts for four weeks and meets five nights a week from 5:45pm to 9:00pm Monday through Friday. The counseling consists of both group and individual therapy. The group meetings consist of CBT, relapse prevention, risk management and education. The group sizes generally range from seven to 10 clients per group and are led by one counselor. Although the program is co-ed, most of the groups are separated by gender with the exception of a co-ed group on Fridays. Clients also meet with their case manager one to three times a week for individual counseling.

The Recovery Center places a great deal of focus on establishing an outside support system in the community for clients to step down to. The Recovery Center has a strong alumni network that clients are introduced to while still in the program. Also, clients are required to attend between two to three outside AA and NA meetings while in treatment.

The program is considered dual diagnosis and clients with potential co-occurring disorders are referred to psychiatrists in the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

The staff consists of certified addiction counselors and some MFTs.

Extras

The Recovery Center offers both meetings and groups for family members. The family meetings consist of clients and their family members, and focus on addiction education and co-dependency issues. The facility also offers groups specifically designed for just family members over the age of 12.

Clients who complete the outpatient program are entitled to up to a year of aftercare services at The Recovery Center. The aftercare program consists of one to three group meetings a week and individual counseling based on the needs of the client.

In Summary

The Recovery Center offers a comprehensive outpatient and aftercare program for adults who might be struggling with addiction. The close proximity to the Community Hospital of Behavioral Health offers a high level of support for clients who have potential co-occurring disorders. Also, The Recovery Center’s large and active alumni network provides clients with a strong outside support group for recovery. A final added bonus, men and women who qualify for Medical are able to receive what would normally be a somewhat expensive program for an extremely affordable price.
