the-open-doorThe Basics

The Open Door was founded in the historic town of Indiana, Pennsylvania in 1976. The organization offers outpatient addiction treatment to adult men and women in Indiana and its surrounding areas.

Treatment and Staff

The Open Door has an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that’s a mixture of both individual and group therapy. Although the exact length and intensity of the program is based on the counselor’s assessment of the client’s needs, most individuals attend between two to three group sessions per week. Counselors use a variety of treatment techniques including CBT, DBT, education, sharing and relapse prevention. The Open Door also offers women’s groups that provide women with a safe environment to explore gender-specific issues. Individual therapy is scheduled accordingly and the frequency solely depends on client need.

Although the Open Door is not 12-step oriented, clients are encouraged to attend outside AA and NA groups while in the program.

The Open Door is dual diagnosis and offers a co-occurring disorders support group for clients with both substance abuse and mental health issues.

The staff consists of a mixture of LMFTs and Certified Prevention Specialists.

Extras

The Open Door also offers a treatment program for adolescent clients. This program meets two to three times a week in the afternoons to accommodate the clients’ academic schedule.

The organization also offers court-mandated programs treatment as well as a Buprenorphine-Enhanced program.

Although Open Door does not have an official family program, clients can request individual meetings with their counselor and their family members. Family members are also recommended to attend outside Alanon meetings while their loved one is in treatment.

In Summary

The Open Door is a good option for outpatient treatment for a number of reasons. The women’s group provides a needed resource for female clients looking to explore gender-specific issues in a sheltered, safe environment. The co-occurring group is an asset for individuals with a dual diagnosis that not all outpatient facilities can claim. Also, the Buprenorphine-Enhanced program allows clients an alternative to a traditional detox program.
