The Basics

The Ohio House is an Orange County, California structured sober living facility that provides Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) and support for clients looking to continue their growth in sobriety after successfully completing a residential program. It’s designed exclusively for men and offers 12-step based treatment, along with an emphasis on enjoying life in recovery.

Accommodations and Food

Ohio House consists of 13 different residences in the Newport Beach area, with a total of 96 beds available. The home-like, comfortable accommodations are primarily comprised of a series of two-story duplexes with five or six double-occupancy bedrooms in each. There are large living rooms with flat screen TVs and ample backyard spaces, and clients are allowed to have cell phones and laptops.

The homes also feature dining rooms and kitchens. Clients are given food cards weekly for groceries. The food is provided by The Ohio House but clients prepare their own meals. There is a nutritionist on staff who coaches residents on planning healthy food options during their stay.

Treatment and Staff

The Ohio House is the ideal environment for those who have finished inpatient treatment and are looking to continue their sober journey in a supportive atmosphere. Initially, the clients participate in an IOP with up to 15 hours of group and individual therapy per week, which takes place off site at Orange County Recovery Services.  There are also AA and NA meetings in the evenings. Then as they progress through the programs, clients work with their therapists to design a treatment goal, and once they achieve that goal they are able to remain in the facility as long as they obtain employment.

A typical day in The Ohio House begins with a morning meditation followed by the IOP then exercise and a meeting. There are also frequent house meetings along with relapse prevention, job skills training and life coaching sessions. Therapeutic approaches are individualized and include CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques.

The Ohio House team includes life coaches and nutritionist and fitness instructors, along with residential house staff. The therapeutic component is comprised of counselors with accreditations of RADC and CADC.

Extras

There are several outings and sober activities scheduled regularly like surfing, fishing trips, hiking, biking and camping. A gym membership to 24 Hour Fitness is provided, as are weekly yoga and boxing classes. The Ohio House can also facilitate transportation services and sober companionship.

In Summary

For many of those who are new to sobriety, the idea of having fun without the help of alcohol and drugs seems impossible. The camaraderie and brotherhood that The Ohio House aims to offer gives clients an alternative view of just how enjoyable life can be without the crutch of an addiction. This IOP and sober living hybrid is a solid asset for the Orange County recovery community.
