The Basics

The Oaks Outpatient Centers are three outpatient treatment facilities affiliated with Heritage Oaks Hospital, a large behavioral health hospital located in Sacramento, California. Heritage Oaks Hospital provides both inpatient and outpatient treatment for adolescents and adults dealing with mental health issues, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. In addition to the 125-bed inpatient unit, the main facility is home to Winding Oaks, which offers outpatient services to adults. The Harbor Oaks location in West Sacramento also treats adults and the Roseville Oaks location in the suburb of Roseville provides services for both adults and adolescents. All three locations offer both Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).

Treatment and Staff

The Oaks Outpatient Centers programs can serve as a step-down for those who have completed inpatient care or a primary option for those who are stable enough to live at home during treatment. Adult PHP clients attend group therapy six hours a day, Mondays through Fridays. Clients typically complete PHP in one to four weeks, then transition to the IOP. IOP clients begin by attending group therapy three hours a day, five days each week, then eventually decrease to three days a week. Typically IOP lasts for about eight weeks. Clients in both programs have individual therapy as needed.

The Adolescent IOP is only offered at Roseville Oaks and designed for those aged 13 to 17. It runs three evenings per week from 4:30 until 7:30 pm. Groups focus on applying new life skills to help teens transition back into the community of their school, friends and family. Groups provide tips and resources for communication skill building, anger management and conflict resolution.

Therapy at the Oaks Outpatient Centers uses CBT, DBT and the 12-step framework as well as modern web-based and holistic methods to compliment traditional therapies. Participation in 12-step meetings outside of treatment hours, such as AA/NA is encouraged.

The treatment team includes a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, Master’s-level therapists—such as LPCs and LSCWs—and case managers.

Extras

Holistic therapies include fitness and nutrition counseling, yoga, art and music therapy.

Families have the opportunity to participate in education and support groups to increase their understanding of addiction and mental illness.

In Summary

The Oaks Outpatient Centers’ IOP and PHP provide solid dual diagnosis support for teens and adults. Whether coming from the inpatient program or directly, the Heritage Oaks Hospital programs are a great choice for those in the Sacramento area seeking help for addiction and mental illness.
