The Basics
Located in Chiang Mai, Thailand, The Next Step is an innovative luxury sober living for men and women in recovery from addiction and co-occurring disorders. Unlike other transitional living facilities, The Next Step is a highly intimate and selective program which chooses clients based on their ability to help develop a healthy, healing community.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Next Step has room for 14 clients in two different types of accommodations: modern, boutique style apartments or traditional Thai cabins. Rooms in both lodgings include a king-sized bed, en suite bathroom, TV with cable, adjoining deck and refrigerator, as well as WiFi and air conditioning. Residents can also take advantage of on-site laundry and room cleaning services which are included in the price. Other features include an outdoor swimming pool, modern gym, art studio, meditation area, game room with a pool table, martial arts dojo and barbecue area. The facility also comes with a fully-equipped kitchen where residents are expected to cook and prepare their own meals, though meals can sometimes be prepared as a group as well.
Rules and Regulations
Throughout their stay, clients are expected to remain sober, participate in all house meetings and submit to regular and random drug testing. While 12-step participation is strongly encouraged, residents can also attend other self-help programs aimed at sobriety. Clients also attend some individual and group therapy with Master’s-level therapists. In addition to therapy, all residents are expected to participate in busy days of activities—namely martial arts lessons, art therapy and meditation. All lengths of stay are flexible.
Extras
While The Next Step program is open to anyone who has completed primary care, the organization’s counselors can also design recovery plans for clients who are chronic relapsers. Above all, programming is highly customized and blends luxury and relaxation with therapy and counseling.
