Located in Holiday, Florida (roughly 25 miles from the Tampa airport), The Next 24 is a recovery organization and ministry which provides sober living programs for men and women. Programs are individualized and take place in three phases with the ultimate goal of enabling clients to live independent and productive lives. The facility differs from some sober livings in its emphasis on spirituality as a path to recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
After an initial intake process, clients are housed in a renovated apartment complex which was once a home designed for senior citizens in retirement. There are a total of 32 beds available, 16 for men and 16 for women. Each unit comes with five bedrooms and five bathrooms all arranged around a central living room space with an attached kitchenette. All of the apartments come with wall-to-wall carpeting, ceramic tiling and furniture.
Residents are generally housed two to a room in twin beds with between eight to 10 per unit. The facility also places house managers in each of the apartments to ensure that the clients remain supervised at all times. During their stay, clients are expected to cook and prepare their own meals though these duties can also be shared among the residents in a given unit. Aside from the living quarters, the facility at large also boasts walking trails, a clubhouse, a fitness facility, shuffleboard courts, a putting green, peaceful garden areas and a community pool with a sun deck.
Rules and Regulations
During their stay, residents must turn in their cell phones and computers to acclimate to their new sober lifestyle. In this initial period, clients are also expected to attend two off-site 12-step meetings per day and to get sponsors. The organization also provides weekly case management sessions to help residents with legal issues, relapse prevention, life skills and job searching if necessary.
Once staff members deem it appropriate, clients regain their electronics privileges and can attend fewer meetings. While the divisions between each phase of treatment are flexible, the first focuses on stabilization while the second and third stress developing spiritual strength and reintegrating into society, respectively. Throughout the program, participants must go to church on Sundays and submit to regular and random drug testing.
In addition to the above, the facility also provides weekly worship services on Tuesday with live music. Sober coaching services and family recovery workshops are also available through the ministry for those in need of extra guidance. Those who finish the initial program and wish to continue living at the facilities can sometimes do so as recovery mentors at the staff’s discretion. Those approved to stay may also take advantage of discounted rent.
Overall, The Next 24 provides a comprehensive recovery environment for men and women with a strong emphasis on 12-step recovery and spiritual healing. All programs are individualized and feature flexible lengths of stay in recently renovated accommodations. For those in the area looking for a Christian approach to extended care, The Next 24 is an affordable option.
