The Basics
Located 50 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles in the community of Camarillo, California, The New Beginnings Center is a treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients struggling with a wide range of conditions including physical and mental illnesses, trauma, substance use disorders and eating disorders, as well as stressful life events. New Beginnings also offers medication management. Founded in 1982, it provides outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) levels of care for men and women of all ages, utilizing a vast array of therapeutic methods.
Treatment and Staff
Individuals beginning outpatient and IOP treatment undergo an assessment. This evaluation helps the staff to develop the most effective treatment program to meet the person’s needs. New Beginnings then creates a completely individualized care plan that utilizes a range of therapies including evidence-based modalities such as CBT and DBT, and holistic methods like yoga, somatic experiencing, visualization, CranoSacral massage therapy and Nia, a fusion fitness class that combines dance and martial arts. The length of treatment varies depending on the specific needs of the client as well as their insurance. Individuals in outpatient attend therapy once a week, whereas IOP is typically three days a week for three to five hours of therapy per day.
While New Beginnings offers individual and group therapy, family therapy and couples counseling, most of the therapy is through group sessions. The facility’s multi-disciplinary team hosts a multitude of groups covering a wide range of issues including eating disorders support, chronic illness therapy, teen recovery, anger management and body and soul to practice relaxation methods for trauma victims as an alternative to substance and alcohol use. In addition, it offers educational classes like parenting skills, meal planning and nutrition. Play therapy is offered for children of all ages, with a room specifically designed as a safe space and toys that facilitate expression.
The New Beginnings Center team is comprised of a multi-disciplinary group of practitioners including LMFTs, specialty therapists, physical therapists and physicians. Medication management is available for individuals with co-occurring disorders.

New Beginnings offers a Thriving Therapist program, a weekly group for mental health professionals in the Ventura area. The facility also provides a new technology called cortical field re-education, where new kinesthetic input is communicated to the brain to liberate negative habits and self-limiting behavior.
