The Basics

Located in Mesa, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, The Mesa House is a sober living facility that provides transitional accommodations for men in the early stages of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. Founded in 2001, The Mesa House is a non-profit organization fostering a strong peer community, life skills training, employment assistance and sober fun activities. The Mesa House implements the 12-step recovery model as an integral component of the living experience.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Mesa House sober living accommodations are situated in upscale, residential homes in nice, quiet neighborhoods. Residents share rooms equipped with full-sized beds and basic furnishings. The homes also have comfortable common areas designed for watching TV and socializing.

Residents are far removed from the lifestyle and negative influences of their past and provided with a stable foundation and positive routine. The Mesa House seeks to show residents how to enjoy a sober life. Clients enjoy celebrations for every holiday as well as other events like a Super Bowl party, family visiting days, baseball games and camping trips.

Rules and Regulations

The Mesa House has helped over 5,000 male residents through a well-rounded, multi-faceted approach to care that includes an array of services. In addition to a sober environment, the facility helps clients find employment and provides work and life skills training, as well as assistance getting food and clothing. The house believes in the importance of a strong community to the success of a long-term sustainable recovery. As such, The Mesa House prides itself on a strong peer community.

Residents are required to attend two house meetings a week in order to discuss issues and connect with fellow residents about the challenges of recovery. Clients also must attend a 12-step meeting every Sunday evening and obtain a sponsor within the first two weeks of moving in. The facility requires all clients to perform daily chores, and either be working or seeking employment.

Before entering The Mesa House, new residents must sign a contract that says they will not use alcohol or any substances during their stay. Also, individuals are made aware that the facility regularly performs urine samples. Residents caught using are immediately discharged and transferred to a detox program. The Mesa House also does not allow individuals with a violent history or anyone ever convicted of a sex crime. While the length of stay varies depending on the needs and situation of the resident, The Mesa House requires a minimum stay of 90 days.

In Summary

The Mesa House has been offering sober living accommodations for men in recovery since 2001. In addition to housing, the facility offers an array of services including job skills training, employment assistance and an immersion into the 12-step recovery model. A credit to the community, The Mesa House never turns down someone in need regardless of their ability to pay. For anyone in the area in need of transitional housing, The Mesa House has a history of making positive change in men’s lives.
