The Basics
The Meadows’ outpatient treatment facility is located in Scottsdale, Arizona, and offers both 12-step and evidence-based practices for adult men and women struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The recovery focused programs not only address substance abuse, but also sexual addiction, gambling addiction and eating disorders. Clients participate in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and experience a series of group therapy, individual therapy and holistic treatments, including trauma focused services and extensive relapse prevention planning.
Treatment and Staff
The IOP at The Meadows consists of four treatment days per week at three hours a day for approximately two months. At the beginning of treatment, clients undergo an assessment and a psychiatric evaluation. For dual diagnosis clients, there are medication management services provides throughout their times in treatment, along with weekly check ins with medical staff to assess how the medications are working with the client’s chemistry.
There are an extensive variety of therapies used during treatment at The Meadows, from traditional talk therapy methods to more science based approaches. CBT, EMDR and Somatic Experiencing are common modalities utilized, along with holistic and wellness based therapies. This can include expressive therapies, like art and music therapy, movement therapy and psychodrama. For clients who have experienced a trauma there is neurofeedback, which is also used for clients with PTSD, anxiety and depression.
The signature approach at The Meadows is known as The Meadows Model, which takes into account each client’s personal history, where they are emotionally, what their actions are and what residual energy they may be experiencing from the past. Clients also begin to change their thought patterns and behaviors through this method. Group sessions are always kept small in number so there is personal attention given. These groups focus on relapse prevention.
The Meadows’ outpatient treatment team consists of Master’s-level therapists and senior fellows, who are a group of mental health and medical experts in their specific fields that lend their time and knowledge to the programs. Staff members include LCSWs, psychiatrists, CASs and medical doctors.
Extras
Outpatient care comes with some amenities like trauma sensitive yoga, and a “brain spa,” which provides virtual reality and immersive visual experience for relaxation in a meditation room, and acupuncture. There is a specialty track specifically for young adults and a family program.

The outpatient track through the well-reputed Meadows network is a good step after inpatient care, or as a stand-alone treatment for those unable to go to rehab at the residential level. The Meadows fosters programs that are cutting edge and individualized to suit each client’s specific mental health and addiction needs.
