The Basics
With locations in Santa Cruz and San Francisco, California, The Lotus Collaborative is a multi-faceted organization with outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for those with eating disorders. It treats adolescent male, female and transgender clients ages 14 and above.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, all clients go through an initial assessment to help the staff develop their individualized treatment plans. Those in the IOP generally attend treatment for four hours a day, while clients in the PHP attend for six to eight hours, both meeting up to seven days a week. There’s also a specialized IOP track for professionals who are still working and that meets for three hours, three times a week. The PHP includes two supervised meals a day whereas the IOP offers one. Because the facility does not offer dual diagnosis support and focuses exclusively on eating disorders, detox is not available.
While schedules may vary, all clients attend both individual and group therapy that uses evidence-based practices like DBT and EMDR. Aside from trauma-informed psychotherapy, the curriculum also incorporates a number of holistic approaches including somatic experiencing, mindfulness training, zen meditation, yoga and nutritional counseling. While 12-step participation is not strictly required, the facility does host on-site meetings on a rotating basis.
The staff at The Lotus Collaborative consists of LPCs, LCPCs, psychiatrists, MFTs, psychologists and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
In addition to the above, the facility also offers a standard outpatient track that can serve as an aftercare option for those who complete a more intensive program. Another available option is the facility’s Mermaid House, a transitional living facility open to women 18 years and older. The two-bedroom home features shared bedrooms with twin beds and all necessary furnishings. Residents often attend outpatient while living in the house though this is not necessarily required.
In Summary
In all, The Lotus Collaborative is a well-rounded program with outpatient care for eating disorders in varying intensities. Each program is sensitive to gender and sexuality with both evidence-based treatment methods and holistic supplements. For adolescents struggling with eating disorders, The Lotus Collaborative is a solid resource.
