The Living Room Hertfordshire Overview
UK’s The Living Room is located in Hertfordshire. It is a free treatment program for adults. The Living Room facilitates evidence-based practices and 12-step support. Programming incorporates abstinence based approaches for all types of addictions, including alcohol, drugs, sex and gambling. The treatment emphasizes strength based programming with the intent to disrupt the cycle of addiction and dispel the stigmas attached.
Treatment and Staff
There are several main groups that take place through The Living Room. These groups address addiction, love and relationships, eating disorders and carers of addicts. Before starting with any of these groups new clients have an assessment at the office, which is offered every day at 9:10 am, and depending on where they are place are required to attend the meetings accordingly.
The addiction group meets every day for four hours, breaking for an hour in the middle to get lunch, and caps out at 20 people per meeting with two therapists running the session. The addition group is mainly peer led and clients are always encouraged to share during this time. This group is not just for those who have a chemical dependency, but any kind of addiction. Most of the other groups run one or two times per week, and last between a few hours to all day events.
In addition to groups, the facility also offers a series of classes and workshops every week. These services run between one to two hours and covers topics like anger management, controlling stress, spotting the signs of addiction in a loved one, self care, and hearing the experiences of former clients.
During the sessions and meetings the therapist’s use several approaches like CBT and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT). In addition, clients have AA and NA meetings during their programs, and explore the concept of spirituality and discovering what their Higher Power is. The Living Room does not force any particular set of beliefs on any of their clients, just guides them in finding out what their idea of being spiritual is and how it can work in their favor in recovery.
There are 12 counselors who run the programs at The Living Room who have extensive training and qualifications. In addition, every therapist at this facility is a former addict, which offers a unique perspective.
The Living Room Hertfordshire Childcare
There is a free childcare program for clients who are in the addiction treatment group. This program allows parents to attend the meetings every day while giving their children a safe and enjoyable place to spend their day.
