The Basics
The Horsham Clinic located in Ambler, Pennsylvania just outside of Philadelphia, is a 55-acre campus that offers adolescents and adults both inpatient and outpatient programming for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for both age groups is comprehensive program and sometimes offered as a step-down treatment plan for those who have recently participated in the residential track. There are a number of therapeutic methods employed during the PHP that include evidence-based approaches, medication management, relapse prevention, 12-step support meetings and psychoeducation. Treatment is provided in individual and group therapy settings.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient program for the younger client is divided into three groups. One that addresses mental health concerns of children who are ages five to about nine, one that targets ages 10 to 13, and the last is for those who are 14 to 18. These younger clients are provided with daily education in order to keep them up to date with their schooling along with the treatment protocol.
The adult program focuses on clients who need a structured environment in order to transition back into their communities. Both age groups have evaluations at the beginning of programming where they are assessed and an individualized plan is implemented. The adolescent clients have treatment that uses a reward system for behavioral modification and works on anger management, communication, coping skills and building social skills. They also participate in recreational and play therapy. The adult track also focuses on coping mechanisms while incorporating mindfulness and stress reduction, therapeutic writing, movement therapy and Schema-based treatment.
There are several group sessions held during the day program, which runs five days a week from the morning to the afternoon. These groups are about an hour or so each and are divided to keep the client to therapist numbers small. Additionally, clients have at least one individual session per week. The length of time that clients are in the day program varies from person to person since these tracks are developed to accommodate each individual client.
The adolescent outpatient tracks are operated by Master’s-level therapists who have vast experience working with children. Altogether The Horsham Clinic employs over two dozen psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, LCSW, LPC, CADC and case managers.
Extras
There are family and couples counseling services offered on site. Case management is part of treatment that includes outside agency assistance if needed.
