The Basics
The Guidance Center, Inc. is a family-oriented, CARF-accredited outpatient behavioral health and counseling agency providing a range of mental health services in Louisiana since 1983. GCI has two locations, one in New Orleans and the other in Chalmette, which provide holistic substance abuse programming using evidence based methods with an emphasis on child and adolescent recovery.
Treatment and Staff
The substance abuse treatment program at GCI does not have a set structure, but is entirely dependent upon the unique needs of each individual. There are diagnostic assessments available to help determine the severity of each client’s substance abuse issues and to determine which treatment methods would be most beneficial. Individual and group therapy as well as family counseling are all available, but are scheduled independently by each client.
School-based counseling and education coordination are also available to adolescent clients to help integrate treatment into their daily lives without overtaking their normal schedules. Psychiatric evaluations and medication management are also offered as well as treatment for those with co-occurring disorders as GCI caters to overall mental health.
All forms of therapy implemented at GCI are based in CBT methodology; the 12 steps are not integrated into the treatment program. The staff at FFS consists of LCSWs, psychiatrists and LPCs.
Extras
In addition to substance abuse treatment services, GCI also offers continuing education workshops every Friday. Taught by licensed and certified professionals, topics range from substance abuse treatment methods, life skills, educational lectures and seminars. The cost is typically $40-45/workshop. Additionally, community psychiatric support and school-based counseling services are available.
GCI also offers crisis intervention services by trained professionals as well as referral services for those seeking treatment beyond that which is offered at GCI.

GCI offers treatment programs aimed at helping both the client and families with an emphasis on education. Through a wide variety of services, GCI is a community-oriented organization serving St. Bernard and neighboring Parishes, providing mental and behavioral health services in addition to traditional therapeutic methods in a basic outpatient setting.
