The Basics

The Emily Program of Ohio is a comprehensive eating disorder program that was originally established in 1993 to provide personalized treatment plans to help clients get to a place of lasting recovery. The Cleveland location, which opened in 2014, offers outpatient care for adolescents and adults who are struggling with a variety of eating disorders. Programming includes group and individual therapy, medical services, and nutritional education and counseling. The Emily Program is a CARF accredited organization that has a series of outpatient treatment options including a Partial HospitalIzation Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which also offers a housing option for adults known as The Vue Lodging.

Treatment and Staff

The outpatient program in Ohio offers different levels of intensity, with the PHP and IOP being the highest level of care. The PHP is five days a week, seven hours a day, while the IOP is four days a week for three hours per day. In both cases, clients experience exposure therapy in a group setting, receive experiential therapy, medication management and monitoring, and therapeutic meals. The team curates an individualized plan for each client upon entry into the program and clients meet with their therapist as frequently as needed throughout their treatment.

Programming includes CBT, DBT, and for the adolescent clients, Family Systems Therapy. The clients discuss body image issues that apply to both adults and adolescent age groups, and receive regular nutritional counseling and evaluations as they move through treatment. In addition there are outpatient offerings for those who are dealing with a dual diagnosis such as a substance abuse disorder.

The Cleveland staff of The Emily Program consists of medical doctors and nurses, Master’s-level LPC, dietitians and nutritionists, LCSWs and psychiatrist.

The Emily Program offers telehealth for outpatient, intensive outpatient and intensive day/partial hospitalization programs.
