The EdgeThe Edge Review

The Edge is a luxury residential substance abuse treatment facility for men located in the mountains outside Northern Thailand’s tourist haven of Chiang Mai. The Edge is part of The Cabin Addiction Services Group, which runs high-end residential and outpatient rehabs around the world. Headquartered in Chiang Mai, The Cabin Group opened The Edge as a response to the demand for gender-specific treatment for young men, aged 18 to 30. The Edge offers a unique inpatient program that emphasizes physical fitness and includes on-site detox and individualized care to men struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders.

Accommodations and Food

The Edge property is a large beautiful campus that includes a huge house, outdoor living spaces and a pool. The facility accommodates up to 12 clients at a time—and each resident is given a private room with a king-size bed, AC and en-suite bathroom. Maid and laundry services are provided daily.

At The Edge, proper nutrition is considered an essential part of wellness and recovery. The menu leans heavily on local Thai cuisine, with its wide variety of fresh produce, herbs and spices containing disease-fighting and immune-boosting properties. For those who prefer other types of food, the chef-catered menu can accommodate any dietary restrictions or needs.

Treatment and Staff

The treatment process at The Edge begins with an assessment to determine the individual’s level of need and physical fitness. The program is unique in its use of intensive sport training as part of treatment, with the belief that physical activity and adventure are key components of successful recovery for young adults. The exact length of stay is based on the client, with 28 and 90-day treatment tracks available. The Edge also offers on-site medical detox with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) if necessary.

The schedule includes at least seven hours a week of group therapy and two hours of both individual therapy and massage therapy. Educational sessions, step work and attending both on-site and off-site AA/NA meetings are also part of the regular routine. Treatment employs The Cabin’s own Recovery Zones model. This combines proven therapeutic methods like CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and relapse prevention with nutrition, fitness, stress management to achieve overall health and wellness.

The Edge is also equipped to provide dual diagnosis support and has therapists on staff to treat co-occurring disorders. The staff includes credentialed therapists and doctors, nurses and psychiatrists, as well as a chef, fitness instructors and support staff. The staff speaks English, with many from Australia and the UK.

Extras

All programs at The Edge include extensive hiking and trekking excursions into Chiang Mai’s forest. Clients also experience a range of outdoor activities the area has to offer, such as rock climbing, whitewater rafting, zip-lining, kayaking and archery. The Edge’s intensive Muay Thai Boxing and Triathlon training programs were designed specifically for young men struggling with addictive behavior.

In Summary

The Edge offers a luxurious specialized recovery retreat for young men. With an emphasis on nutrition and fitness, as well as plenty of 12-step support, clients can get healthy and build a solid foundation for lasting recovery. For young men seeking a rehab far from home where they can get clean and sober and work on physical fitness, this is an excellent choice.
