Inexpensive rehabs Chiang Mai ThailandThe Dawn Rehab Review

The Dawn is a luxury addiction and mental health rehab facility in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It offers a beautiful, serene location and a variety of holistic and comprehensive evidence-based treatment techniques for those struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The Dawn caters to clients from around the world and provides English-speaking detox, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse care to those 18 years and older.

Accommodations and Food

The Dawn takes a maximum of 30 clients at a time and houses them in luxurious private rooms. Bedrooms have king beds, en suite bathrooms with large tubs, flat screen TVs with satellite channels in English, Wi-Fi and private balconies. Cell phones and laptops are allowed and there also are daily maid and laundry services provided. The communal spaces feature health spa, swimming pool and fitness area.

All meals are prepared on-site and both traditional Thai and western dietary options are available for each meal, with a particular emphasis on clean, locally-sourced and healthy foods. Each meal is served in a restaurant-style setting, complete with servers, linens and fine china. Evening meals include an appetizer, main course and dessert. Clients are also welcome to help themselves to smoothies, fresh fruit and other nutritious snacks all day.

Treatment and Staff

A stay at The Dawn begins with an assessment and an individualized treatment plan. Duration of treatment may last one to three months, depending on the client. Those requiring detox are under doctor’s supervision for the first part of their stay and attend treatment when they are physically stable. Medication to alleviate withdrawal symptoms is prescribed as needed. Off-site detox may be necessary in special cases at the nearby Chiang Mai Ram Hospital, one of the city’s best private facilities. As previously mentioned, dual diagnosis support is also provided for those with co-occurring disorders.

The Dawn employs what it refers to as a “Twin Pillars” approach to addiction treatment. The pillars are basically traditional methods and holistic approaches. Clients spend every day having CBT-based individual sessions with their assigned counselor and taking part in group therapy twice a day. AA/NA meetings are available on-site weekdays and off-site on weekends. The daily routine also includes guided meditation and mindfulness techniques, massage therapy and acupuncture as well as fitness and nutrition coaching.

Toward the end of treatment, there is a shift toward relapse prevention. For those who live locally or choose to stay in Thailand, an outpatient program is available as a step-down option. This entails either attending groups or individual sessions on-site or by Skype.

The Dawn employs a number of licensed counselors, psychiatrists and psychologists, medical professionals, mindfulness coaches and nutritionists. The majority of the team was trained abroad and graduated from institutions in Europe, the US and Australia. Each member is licensed in his or her field of expertise and has decades of combined experience in the treatment of drug and alcohol addictions. There is also a local celebrity chef and renowned local martial arts expert on staff.

Extras

The facility also offers on-site yoga classes, bicycles and a library stocked with recovery literature. A three-day intensive family program with accommodations for two loved ones per client is included in the service rate.

The Dawn aftercare program offers ongoing therapy, either in-person, over Skype, or by recommending trained professionals in the area the client lives. Aftercare clients may be referred to participate in 12-step meetings, guided towards new hobbies, participate in charity and/or volunteer work. Once clients complete the program, they become part of The Dawn Alumni Community. Many former clients volunteer to work closely alongside staff to provide peer support to current clients. Alumni also often organize events and outings to attend meetings.

The Dawn offers treatment for various process addictions including food, the Internet, gambling and sex.

In Summary

The Dawn’s luxury treatment is on par with any other residential treatment facility, in a beautiful setting that offers an exotic, lush natural landscape and a low cost. With a nice balance of east and west, traditional and holistic approaches, this is an excellent and economical option for high-end treatment.
