The Center for Alcohol & Drug ServicesThe Center for Alcohol & Drug Services Review

Founded on January 25, 1980, The Center for Alcohol & Drug Services (CADS) has a long and successful history dedicated to the prevention, assessment and treatment of substance abuse in the Quad Cities and surrounding communities. With locations in the states of Iowa and Illinois, CADS is a non-profit, multi-modality organization and licensed by the Department of Public Health in Iowa and the Department of Human Services, Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse in Illinois. CADS offers many services to clients of all age groups as well as their families.

Accommodations and Food

CADS’ inpatient division is Country Oaks, a private, full service behavioral healthcare facility, located in the rural and calming environment of Davenport, Iowa. With 66 beds, Country Oaks has an average of around 50 to 55 clients in treatment. Country Oaks is co-ed, with the women’s quarters upstairs and the men’s quarters downstairs. Rooms are medium in size and shared between two roommates sleeping in separate twin beds. Private rooms are available at no extra cost, but are reserved for clients with specific medical needs.

Clients are granted phone privileges. Smoking is permitted outside but cigarettes are not provided. There is an indoor recreation room with weight sets, and also basketball and tennis courts outdoors. These are always available to clients, with the outdoor courts available weather permitting.

Clients are served three meals a day, cafeteria style. There is also a snack mid-afternoon and fruit is always available. A typical dinner will include a main course, a vegetable side and a dessert.  Decaf coffee is available.

Treatment and Staff

The first step to receiving treatment at CADS is an assessment determining if clients are in need of detox. CADS offers a Medically Monitored Detox unit, which is managed by a 24-hour nursing staff. Clients are seen daily by a physician, too. Clients are offered the option of medication-assisted treatment with Methadone. This is conducted by a physician only after the client is assessed and determined to be a good candidate for this treatment.

Individual and group therapy and 12-step meetings are the building blocks of a personalized treatment plan that varies from person to person. CBT is part of treatment, as well. The facility is equipped to treat clients with co-occurring disorders.

Clients have six hours of therapy Monday through Friday, either group or individual. Clients have anywhere from 3 to 4 hours of therapy on Saturdays and Sundays.

The staff at Country Oaks is comprised of CSACs, CADCs and LPNs. A physician monitors patients daily, and is on call during the evenings.

Extras

CADS also offers a variety of substance abuse prevention and awareness programs focused on educational and informational activities for families. For children and adolescents, CADS offers after school and summer outreach programs and esteem building groups. This extended support is designed to create a supportive and substance-free community for the client.

In Summary

CADS has more than two decades of experience in treating substance abuse, quality facilities and a helpful and qualified staff. Located in a calm, rural environment and funded by private and public sources and donation, CADS charges sliding scale minimal treatment fees from clients. Treatment is truly accessible for those who need help.
