The Basics
In 2015, The Carter Treatment Center opened in Cumming, Georgia. The Carter Treatment Center does not follow the 12-step program, opting instead for a more holistic approach that also employs evidence-based methods of treatment, including CBT. Its treatment includes an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and basic outpatient treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at the Carter Treatment Center IOP is completely individualized for each client. Group sessions are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and clients may choose between the day (sessions from 11 am to 2 pm) or evening option (from 6 to 9 pm). On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they can schedule individual sessions (in the form of counseling or life coaching) and family therapy sessions. Each client is also assigned his or her therapist upon admission for all individual work.
At the beginning of their treatment program, clients typically attend sessions four times a week, taking part in a minimum of three group and at least one individual session. Apart from groups for adult clients, Carter Treatment Center also provides an adolescent option for clients between the ages of 13 and 17.
Treatment modalities include EMDR, equine therapy, aromatherapy, acupuncture and adventure therapy. Carter Treatment Center also provides dual diagnosis support and gender specific groups.
Carter Treatment Center organizes off-site group activities on Saturdays, as well as a family night once a month, which is a relatives-included, two-and-a-half to three-hour pizza dinner. Carter Treatment Center organizes a twice monthly 90-minute family-only night where center staff members talk about treatment with the family members without the actual clients’ presence.
The Carter Treatment Center employees two licensed clinical therapists, three CACs and a life coach.
Extras
An aftercare program and an alumni group are available to support clients once they complete their treatment tracks. Drug and alcohol testing are performed regularly and life skills classes are offered to help clients better prepare themselves for life in sobriety.
Further therapeutic activities include yoga, Tai Chi, meditation, sound therapy, a R.O.P.E.S obstacle course and inner child sessions.
