The Buttery Outreach
The INTRA program is a community based outreach project through The Buttery. It offers several groups and educational opportunities for those struggling with getting sober. There are several Buttery locations throughout Australia, with two facilities providing individual counseling. INTRA uses a number of different approaches in its seminars and groups. The program facilitates SMART Recovery, intervention and some gender specific treatment.
Treatment and Staff
INTRA uses a harm reduction model to promote health and wellness. It also fosters a supportive environment conducive to sharing. There are programs for young people (12 to 24 years of age), and separate adult tracks. These programs are open to the public and free of charge.
The adolescent to young adult track has a series of early intervention groups, including a cannabis program and relapse prevention track. In addition, there is a specialty program offering youth wilderness adventure trips that teach valuable life skills such as cooking, problem solving and working together with others. There are also a number of presentations that young clients can attend through their school, or clubs that have group counseling and open discussions.
The adult courses and groups address anger management, relationships and codependency, and managing stress in a healthy manner. There are also men’s specific groups with guided meditation. The Buttery has educational offerings for the community. One is called “Party Safe.” It’s a seminar about the dangers of drugs at music festivals or dance events. There are also seminars that address topics like coming off methadone. INTRA also facilitates training sessions for those who work with addicts or are part of human services organizations.
While these programs are open to all and abstinence is not required, anyone attending a group or seminar is not allowed to show up intoxicated or under the influence. If someone attends a session in a compromised state, he or she is not permitted to stay.
Established professionals who work in the drug and alcohol field run every aspect of the INTRA program.
Extras
The INTRA program is not associated with The Buttery’s residential program. However, they are able to support those who are interested in taking part in that track and can help facilitate the transition.

The INTRA program is just one of the many that The Buttery offers for the community. The services are judgement free and supportive for all ages. The INTRA track is ideal for those who are not sure if they need help to get off drugs or not, and provides several options for either cutting down on their use or being successful in total abstinence.
