The Basics

Based out of Los Angeles, California, The Bella Vita is a behavioral health organization that provides a range of treatment programs for clients with eating disorders and related dual diagnosis issues. Though it also offers more intensive residential treatment options in La Cañada Flintridge and Thousand Oaks, it also provides outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) in Santa Clarita, Woodland Hills and Los Angeles.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process. Though on-site detox services for substance abuse are not available, those in need can get referrals to nearby facilities. The most intensive program option is the PHP or day treatment program, which meets eight hours a day, six days a week. IOP is a more flexible, meeting four hours a day up to six days a week. Finally, standard outpatient is the most flexible option and can be customized to fit any schedule.

In all the above, treatment includes individual and group therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT, though specific modalities used are likely to vary by practitioner. All programs also include comprehensive nutritional counseling and gradual exposure therapy sessions to help participants develop healthy eating and cooking habits. Group sessions cover a range of topics including body image, self-esteem, trauma, emotional processing and relapse prevention. As mentioned, support for co-occurring disorders is also available including medication management. Though attending 12-step recovery groups is not required, those looking for nearby peer support groups can get referrals as necessary.

The staff at The Bella Vita consists of psychiatrists, RNs, LPCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, dietitians and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

Other available services include couples and family therapy as well as marriage counseling services. More intensive treatment options are available in the form of residential treatment, whereas those who complete primary care can step down their care plans as a form of aftercare. The organization can also place alums in transitional living homes as well.

In Summary

Overall, The Bella Vita is a well-rounded organization with a wide range of programs available for men and women struggling with eating disorders. Treatment programs are individualized and evidence-based, each featuring dual diagnosis support, nutritional counseling and ancillary therapeutic services like family and couples counseling. Though the cost of treatment may vary, The Bella Vita’s outpatient options remain worth considering for those in the area seeking flexible treatment.
