The Basics

Founded in 2004, The Adams Center for Mind and Body is an outpatient behavioral health facility based out of Burlington, Vermont. It boasts a wide range of flexible treatment plans for clients struggling with mental illness and related behavioral health issues. The organization is more of an affiliation of different practitioners who offer various services for different needs. Treatment plans can be made to suit most schedules.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all participants go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff members determine their needs and their treatment histories. As an outpatient program, on-site medical detox is not available, though referrals can be provided upon request.

While each plan differs, treatment includes both individual and group therapy with evidence-based practices like CBT, DBT and EMDR. While some addiction support may be available (and referrals to nearby 12-step meetings can be provided), the organization focuses primarily on issues of anxiety, depression, trauma and eating disorders. In addition to these psychotherapeutic methods, additional groups covering meditation, mindfulness training, Reiki, bodywork, massage, Tai Chi, yoga, body-image, stress management, nutritional counseling and art therapy. While basic dual diagnosis support may be available, those in need of medical or psychiatric oversight may need to seek additional help elsewhere.

The staff at The Adams Center for Mind and Body consists of psychologists, dietitians, Reiki practitioners, LCSWs, LMHCs, LADCs, RDNs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

Other therapy options include couples and family therapy to supplement the above. All treatment schedules are very flexible, with the facility open from 8 am to 7 pm on weekdays and from 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday. Special groups and classes are also available covering topics like media literacy, psychodrama and mindful eating. Those who complete a primary care regimen can work with the staff to develop discharge plans and step-down aftercare options.
