Midland MichiganTen16 Recovery Network Review

Ten16 Recovery Network began in 1979 as a private, non-profit halfway house for substance abusers in Midland, Michigan. A new facility was built in 2011, offering services such as detox and residential care. The name, Ten16, refers to the address of the original program, although there is more to the story. Law enforcement uses “ten codes” over the radio, and a “1016 “means there is an open door at the scene. This program has adopted that same motto, opening its doors to all those who suffer from substance abuse and mental health issues. Rooted in the 12 steps, this intensive, therapeutic program aims to rehabilitate its clients back into the real world.

Accommodations and Food

Located in a woodsy area of Midland, a city about 130 miles northwest of Detroit, the Ten16 Recovery Network facility is insulated from the noise of urban life. The 20-bed building houses everything under one roof, making the rehab experience an easy and comfortable one. Nicely sized bedrooms are shared between two clients, featuring twin-sized beds, natural light, carpeting and adequate closet space. When it comes to relaxing, the common area offers floor-to-ceiling windows, a flat-screen TV, comfy couches and a brick fireplace for chilly nights. Therapy rooms, a dining room, a lecture hall and offices are also located in the building. Smoking is allowed in designated areas on the property.

Three meals per day are prepared and served on-site in the dining room. Options include a salad bar, fresh fruit, grilled vegetables, pasta, pizza, grilled chicken and salmon. Dietary requests and food allergies can be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

The 30- to 90-day program may begin with on-site detox, which usually lasts between two and seven days, with round-the-clock care to ensure safety. Once the client is stabilized, they follow a rigorous schedule of individual therapy and group therapy, 12-step meetings, physical fitness and education.

Clients meet with a therapist several times a week for individual counseling. Daily group therapy covers topics such as relapse prevention, trauma, processing, anger management, step study and nutrition. There are several onsite 12-step meetings every week and educational lectures provide more information on addiction and the science behind it.

In addition to providing detox and residential care, Ten16 Recovery Network offers continuing care at five outpatient clinic locations in Midland, Big Rapids, Clare, Gladwin and Mt. Pleasant. These services vary in length and intensity depending on the needs of the client.

Extras

Ten16 Recovery Network views family involvement as a crucial component of recovery. As part of their family program, there is a family therapy day every week, during which a family member can consult with the client’s primary therapist. In addition, families are able to visit every Sunday for several hours.

For exercise, residents are taken off-site to a gym six times a week. The membership is covered in the monthly cost. In addition, clients are able to go for supervised walks and participate in guided yoga at the Ten16 Recovery Network facility.

In Summary

Ten16 Recovery Network offers a 12-step, community-based program in a serene Michigan setting. The intimate setting, hands-on staff and rigorous therapy enables clients to feel fully supported as they walk through recovery.
