The Basics
Tempo Group is a New York based counseling network that provides treatment for adults and adolescents struggling with chemical dependency. All services are outpatient and are available in Syosset, Woodmere and North Merrick.
For more than four decades, TG has provided programs that incorporate education, prevention, intervention and treatment of chemical dependency. In addition to the three locations, TG also has an outreach program that works in the community and schools to provide direction and assistance for local residents. Since 1968, Tempo Group has operated as a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Tempo Group staff utilize evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT during therapeutic sessions with frequency determined by an initial assessment upon intake. Individualized treatment allows clients to choose convenient treatment times as well as the specifics of their unique recovery program. Adults and adolescents are enrolled in age-specific programs. Program duration is dependent on individual progress and payment abilities. TG is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 9 pm. The clinics are closed on weekends.
Clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings in the community to deepen their support network and some aspects of the 12-step framework are also incorporated in the treatment approach. The primary methods of treatment are through group and individual therapy.
Typical plans require clients to attend treatment five days a week, then gradually decreasing attendance to one day per week as progress is made. Dual diagnosis support is provided through specialized groups. Clients attend a range of groups that include psychoeducation classes as well as relapse prevention.
There is no on-site detox available, but clients are given referrals if needed. All treatment aspects are carried out by CADCs. Counselors are dedicated to providing age- and gender-specific care as well as general chemical dependency treatment.
Extras
TG offers a family program that provides education for family members and spouses who wish to support their loved one throughout treatment. Facilitated as a series, families learn about how to not enable their loved one and how to best assist their recovery. Parenting classes are also available.
In addition, TG offers remote programs through a Youth Services Center as well as a DWI/DUI program for drunk driving offenders. All services are meant to offer the community a way to heal and recover from chemical dependency.

Through individualized treatment approaches and family programs, clients and their loved ones are given support by clinical staff members to strengthen communication and bonds as they continue a life in sobriety.
