The Basics
Teen Solutions is a private therapy practice located in affluent Marin County, California, outside of San Francisco. Teen Solutions was founded in 2000 by married couple Richard and Lorraine Platt, both LMFTs with extensive experience counseling teens and their families. Prior to opening Teen Solutions, Richard counseled teens with substance use disorders at Marin’s Adolescent Recovery Services and Lorraine counseled teens and their families at the Henry Olhloff Outpatient Program in San Francisco.
Lorraine currently specializes in treating adolescent girls and their parents while Richard focuses on adolescent boys and men. Richard runs also provides group therapy for men and boys and designs customized outpatient programs for his clients.
Treatment and Staff
After assessing a client, Richard creates a treatment plan that includes both group and individual therapy. The men’s group meets on Saturdays and the boy’s groups meet on Tuesdays in San Rafael and on Fridays in Mill Valley. Richard may also suggest peer support meetings such as 12-step or SMART Recovery, as well as family therapy. Clients in need of dual diagnosis support may be referred to a psychiatrist for medication management and additional specialized therapy. The duration of each treatment plan is progress-based, depending on the needs and goals of each client.
Richard follows a holistic treatment model for addiction. He’s trained in attachment theory and uses family constellation and biological models in therapy. He helps men and boys create effective means of self-expression and connecting to their communities in order to make them less vulnerable to addiction.
Lorraine is trained in family systems, attachment theory and somatic experiencing. Her practice treats young women struggling with addiction, eating disorders, anxiety and depression. She has experience facilitating groups, though she is currently only offering individual therapy.

Both Richard and Lorraine offer parenting coaching and offer parenting advice on their website’s blog.
