The facility is owned and operated by the nationwide Teen Challenge organization, and provides long-term residential tracks lasting for 14 months as well as a 30 day inpatient program.
Accommodations and Food
The rural facility sits on 18 acres in a restored former military base. Residents live in shared rooms with bunk beds, dressers and shared closet space. Other features include an on-site chapel, plenty of outdoor space and a large cafeteria.
Throughout their stay, clients eat three square meals a day. Sometimes they may also be required to cook in the kitchen as part of their rotating chores.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients go through an initial intake to help the staff determine their needs. Those in need of detox can do so at Teen Challenge’s main location in eastern Pennsylvania.
Clients go through treatment in phases, each of which focuses on a different aspect of spirituality and personal discipline. Both group and individual therapy with life coaches and pastors are available, all focused on Biblical teachings and the deeper issues involving each client’s respective issues with addiction.
Treatment also incorporates evidence-based practices, such as CBT, the Matrix Model and 12-step facilitation. Clients are allowed to be on psychotropic medications if necessary.
The staff at Teen Challenge Western Pennsylvania consists of program alumni, volunteers, life coaches and spiritual counselors with addiction counseling credentials.
Extras
Aside from the above, the organization also offers additional programs after clients finish treatment. They can intern with the organization to become employees themselves.
