Tarzana Treatment Center Lancaster Youth ServicesTarzana Treatment Center Lancaster Youth Services Review

With a flagship inpatient location in its namesake, Tarzana Treatment Center also offers a youth residential treatment program in the Antelope Valley town of Lancaster, California. It provides individualized treatment based on the 12-step philosophy, along with group and individual therapy and detox services. This coed program introduces relapse prevention, anger management and structured educational group treatment for adolescents under the age of 18.

Accommodations and Food

The residential facility has 40 beds, some of which are reserved for detox. The facility is a large, medical building that separates the males and females on different sides. The detox section is a bit more intimate with two clients to a room and the residential side is more dorm-style accommodations with up to 12 per room, all sharing a large bathroom. There are also living room spaces with TVs.

The clients are provided with three meals a day and a canteen is available with snacks and other daily essentials at an additional cost. Residents eat in a large shared dining room attached to an industrial kitchen.

Treatment and Staff

The youth programs at the Lancaster location of Tarzana Treatment Center offer a variety of treatment plans that are specific to their clients’ needs. As such, length of programming differs depending on the person. There are at least two group sessions daily that cover relapse prevention, anger management, nutrition and coping skills. Clients also meet weekly with their assigned therapist for individual sessions. Education is also an important part of the adolescent treatment so in addition to time spent in therapy, there are age appropriate classes approved through the LAUSD.

Clients get an introduction to the 12 steps and attend meetings both on and off campus. The program is divided into phases, with the initial phase being the most intensive. As clients move successfully through treatment, they are able to earn more privileges; like phone time, visiting hours and job assignments.

There are specialty groups for clients with co-occurring disorders along with medication management. Holistic and expressive therapy options are offered as well, along with nutrition counseling.

The staff for the youth program includes LCSWs, MFTs, psychologists, MDs and RNs.

Extras

Clients and their families are able to participate in a weekly family program that consists of education and counseling. Throughout treatment, clients work with their therapist to design an aftercare plan that can include transitioning to an outpatient treatment program.

The campus has a basketball court and swimming pool, in addition to being adjacent to a local community center that is used for group exercises like tennis and creative activities. There are also walking and hiking trails nearby. Clients participate in fundraisers and group recreational outings, like movie and bowling nights.

In Summary

Though in most cases, adolescents may not want to stop what they’re doing and go into treatment but the structured programs at Tarzana Treatment Center aim to educate and stop the cycle of addiction. Parents and youth in the area could consider Tarzana Treatment Center Lancaster as a viable resource for young people to begin recovery in a safe and supportive setting.
