The Basics
Tanner Health Systems Behavioral Health Care is a non-profit facility that offers detox, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient care out of East Alabama and Georgia. Tanner provides services to both adolescents and adults struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Stabilization and detox take place at Willowbrooke—Tanner’s behavioral health wing and 52-bed residential component. Those going through detox can expect to spend five to seven days at the facility, during which clients are monitored 24 hours a day to ensure a comfortable and safe detox. During that time, clients also start a therapy program which includes exercise, education and nutritional balancing.
Once this phase is completed, clients generally begin the PHP which runs for six weeks from 9 am to 1 pm, five days a week. Another option is IOP, which runs three days a week from 9 am to 1 pm as well. The adolescent PHP usually runs in the evening from 4 to 8 pm, though in the summer this shifts to morning hours.
Treatment is therapy-based and offers holistic programming as well as animal-assisted therapy, equine therapy, expressive therapy and evidence based practices including CBT and EMDR. Those with a dual diagnosis are eligible for medication management services as well. Tanner is a comprehensive facility with medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, psychologists, LCSWs, LPCs and addiction specialists.
Extras
Tanner also offers an aftercare program which is ongoing and includes once a week individual therapy sessions. Specialty groups at the facility are dedicated to those with ADHD, pain management, self-esteem building, grief and loss, body image and anger management.
