The Basics
Located in Houston, Texas, Take Action Recovery is a broad behavioral health organization with a range of treatment programs for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. While the company’s flagship track is its Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which includes medical and psychiatric support, it also offers 12-step-based sober living services for women.
Accommodations and Amenities
Take Action Recovery has two sober living homes with a total of 16 beds available, all made possible through its partnership with Memorial Women’s Recovery House. Throughout their stay, all clients sleep in shared bedrooms with full beds, end tables, lamps, dressers and shared close space. Though the homes are somewhat different, each is located near public transit and local shops. The houses come with shared living room areas with cable TV and WiFi, on-site laundry, therapy rooms, yard space and modern kitchens. Residents do most of their own food preparation but sometimes meals are provided.
Rules and Regulations
All residents are expected to stay busy by attending outpatient treatment, pursuing higher education, volunteering or working a job. Like many competing programs, clients must also submit to regular and random drug tests and obey a basic house behavioral contract.
Not all participants attend therapy but 12-step participation is a basic requirement for everyone. They are expected to get a sponsor and start actively working the steps. Residents who are in good standing are allowed to have visitors and go on off-site trips as necessary.
Extras
Because each of the houses has LCDCs and other staff who are in recovery themselves, clients are free to ask them for advice on sobriety. Other services such as transportation and job assistance are sometimes available as well. Clients looking to attend outpatient therapy are welcome to do so through Take Action Recovery but may also pursue it through an off-site organization.
