The Basics
Based out of Houston, Texas, Take Action Recovery is a multi-faceted recovery company that provides a number of treatment options for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The organization’s approach includes medical and psychiatric support, 12-step integration and flexible treatment planning. In addition to its Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), it also offers sober living for men.
Accommodations and Amenities
All told, Take Action Recovery has five different residences for men with a total of 70 available beds. Housing is provided through a partnership with Sober Living Houston, a company founded in 2009. The homes themselves are dotted throughout Spring Branch, a discreet, residential neighborhood in Houston.
Clients live in shared bedrooms with twin beds, typically with one other roommate. Rooms also include basic decorations, dressers, end tables and shared closet space. Though the layout of each home may differ, each includes shared living areas with cable TV, therapy rooms, on-site laundry, grassy yards and fully-equipped kitchens. Throughout their stay, all clients are expected to cook and prepare their own meals.
Rules and Regulations
As with many similar facilities, clients must obey a basic house behavioral contract and keep their days busy with outpatient therapy, volunteerism, employment or educational classes. All residents are expected to stay sober and to submit to regular and random drug tests as well. Clients must also attend all house meetings and remain active in a 12-step program. Though the sober living does have these basic requirements and accountability groups, residents are also allowed the freedom to have visitors and go off site, if they are in good standing at the house.
Extras
Clients are welcome to attend outpatient therapy through Take Action Recovery while staying at a sober living facility but also to attend off-site programs as well.
Those seeking a higher-end experience can inquire about the organization’s Advanced Accountability program, which places clients in higher-end accommodations. State-funded housing placement is also available.
