Surge Recovery is an all-encompassing behavioral health organization in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Surge provides comprehensive substance abuse treatment transitional living for adult men ages 18 and up. The Surge Recovery treatment protocol is an extended care residential program lasting 90 days or more and includes a full suite of additional support services.
Accommodations and Amenities
Clients at Surge Recovery stay in dorm-style accommodations with 70 beds available. Throughout their stay, residents stay in shared rooms with twin beds, bookshelves, dressers and shared closet space. The rest of the facility includes all the necessities one would find at home, including on-site laundry, dining areas, shared common areas with cable TV and a fully-equipped kitchen. Throughout their stay, clients take turn on kitchen duty. They learn to work together to cook and prepare meals for the house.
Rules and Regulations
To stay at Surge Recovery, all clients are expected to remain sober and to participate in regular and random drug testing. For full compliance with the program, residents must also participate in a three-stage treatment and case management program which includes vocational training, job placement and educational classes. As residents progress, they also take on more responsibility at the facility and help out with daily scheduling and activities. While all clients have a high degree of freedom in the program, all are required to keep their common areas clean and orderly, respect other clients’ space and observe nightly curfews.
Other services include holistic therapy including fitness classes, nutrition education and cooking classes. GED preparation programs are also available as are referrals to nearby peer support groups like 12-step recovery. Those who complete the program above can also work with staff members to develop aftercare plans as well.
Overall, Surge Recovery is a comprehensive program which moves beyond treatment to address each client’s entire lifestyle. Though in-house outpatient care is not available, the facility does provide a wide range of support services including educational and vocational aid—all with flexible lengths of stay. For men in the area seeking a stable recovery environment with flexible program options, Surge Recovery is worth considering.
