Sunspire Health: Hilton Head Review
Sunspire Health is a nationwide network of addiction treatment facilities that offer personalized treatment plans for people of all walks of life, meeting them where they are at and guiding them through recovery. Sunspire Health: Hilton Head is located in the resort town of Hilton Head, South Carolina, which is on an island 20 miles northeast of Savannah, Georgia. The facility provides a full continuum of care, including detox, residential treatment, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The Sunspire Hilton Head location also offers dual diagnosis support and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).
Accommodations and Food
Formally a boutique hotel, the recently remodeled 36-bed facility offers both double and single rooms (for an additional cost), each with its own bathroom and outdoor patio space. The queen or king beds are made up with fluffy white comforters and each client has a dresser and closet space. The floor plan offers spaces for group and individual therapy, as well gender-specific wings, all surrounded by beautiful gardens.
Three gourmet meals per day are prepared by on-site chefs and accommodations can be made for vegetarians, vegans and those allergic to gluten. Clients eat together in the dining room.
Treatment and Staff
Residential care usually lasts between one and three months, with the exact length of treatment dependent on the client’s individualized treatment plan. All programs begin with an assessment, followed by detox for those who need it. Clients typically remain in this phase between four and seven days, after which they transition to the residential program and a regular treatment schedule.
Residents attend daily group therapy and psychoeducational sessions, and individual therapy appointments are twice a week. Groups focus on resolving trauma, anger management, coping skills and relapse prevention. Lectures educate clients about the physical impact of addiction and the cycle of addictive behavior. Counselors who facilitate curricula are trained in CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). There is 12-step integration.
The treatment team at Hilton Head includes Board Certified psychiatrists, nurses and doctoral and Master’s-level clinicians with significant experience in addiction and mental health treatment.

Hilton Head also features an on-site exercise room, pool, and yoga—all included in the residential treatment experience.
For family members who are far away, Hilton Head also offers conference calls and therapy sessions via Skype or FaceTime.
