The behavioral health network Sunspire Health is headquartered in New Jersey, and includes residential treatment facilities in California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon, South Carolina and Texas. The Sunspire Health Oregon location for men is called Astoria Pointe and set along the Columbia River in the city of Astoria, Oregon.
The facility provides a gender-specific continuum of care that includes the residential level of care, with detox and inpatient treatment. Outpatient services include a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and basic outpatient treatment with a sober living option. Programs at this location also incorporate dual diagnosis support and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) if necessary.
Treatment and Staff
The Astoria Pointe outpatient programs are available for men who prefer to live at home during treatment or who have completed the residential program. The PHP runs Monday through Friday for six hours a day and includes group and individual therapy. After about two weeks, clients usually step down to the IOP level, which is a 10-week program that entails 12 to 15 hours a week of group therapy and individual sessions. Clients also attend off-site AA/NA or SMART Recovery meetings. The final, basic outpatient phase of treatment can range anywhere from one to three additional months, depending on the client’s individualized treatment plan and progress. Services include weekly individual and/or group therapy, family sessions, urinalysis and mandatory attendance at self-help groups. Treatment in all outpatient tracks employs evidence-based practices like DBT, CBT, Seeking Safety and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Relapse prevention and life skills training are also incorporated.
Astoria Pointe’s outpatient program offers a sober living option for clients in a nine-unit apartment building accommodating two or three men per unit. The apartments are fully furnished and each has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and dining area. Furnishings include double beds, cable TV, individual washers and dryers in each unit and Wi-Fi. Clients are responsible for their own food and meal preparation and are taken to social services to apply for food stamps if necessary. Cooking utensils and cleaning supplies are provided. Smoking is permitted outside and only in designated areas.
Sunspire Health: Astoria Pointe Outpatient is a great option for men seeking to extend their treatment or looking for an alternative to the residential program. The added bonus of optional sober living provides clients with safe and structured housing and a sober community. This is a good choice for men wishing to remain in the recovery fold following inpatient treatment.
