Accommodations and Food
Sunrise Way is a 20 bed facility. The residence has common areas, a patio, volleyball court, gardens and a pool table. Every resident has a private room with a comfortable bed and basic furnishings. Residents are responsible for daily chores, ranging from gardening to preparing meals for each other.
Clients enjoy healthy, delicious fare with organic foods from the garden. Sunrise Way can accommodate dietary restrictions.
Treatment and Staff
Incoming clients have a 10-minute phone interview then a 90 minute in-person assessment. This helps the team design the most effective individualized treatment strategy.
When necessary, clients transition from intake directly into detox. Sunrise Way offers a medical detox with around the clock supervision and medication to curb painful withdrawal effects. While the length of detox varies, the process typically lasts five to seven days. Upon completion of detox, clients typically transfer into residential, which lasts six months.
Sunrise Way employs a multifaceted approach. It integrates evidence-based therapies, 12-step, psychoeducation, holistic practices, life skills training and relapse prevention. Clients participate in individual and group therapy rooted in CBT, REBT and ACT.
The facility offers educational classes for clients to learn about the science behind the disease of addiction. They must attend at least four AA/NA meetings a week.
A multidisciplinary team makes up the staff at Sunrise Way. It includes counselors, social workers, case managers and a peer support worker. There is also an art therapist. Clients meet with a physician, nutritionist and, when necessary, a dentist.
Medication management is available for dual diagnosis support.
Residents also engage in meditation, yoga, art and music therapy. Sunrise Way places a premium on physical fitness, therefore it requires residents to exercise everyday, whether it’s volleyball, boxing or a brisk walk.
Sunrise Way also offers a weekly family support for up to 20 people. Parents and family members learn effective coping strategies, such as communication techniques and setting boundaries.
Finally, there is continued support available for clients that complete the six-month residential program. Individuals can stay in sober living accommodations while volunteering and learning new skills.
A credit to the Toowoomba community, Sunrise Way provides affordable, long-term care. It emphasizes personal empowerment and community involvement while also incorporating spirituality. The facility is an amazing resource for individuals that need a loving community and a second chance.
