The Basics
Phoenix, Arizona’s Sunlight of the Spirit is a women’s transitional living program that offers a safe place to reside during the beginning stages of recovery. Clients learn how to re-enter their communities while attending daily 12-step meetings, picking up new life skills and relapse prevention techniques.
Accommodations and Amenities
Sunlight of the Spirit offers two bedroom apartments in a quiet and private complex. The units are fully furnished and can accommodate up to four clients who share bedrooms. Each of the spaces has all the necessities that anyone would need; a living room with TV, couches and chairs, fully stocked kitchen with cookware and utensils, Wifi throughout the apartments and full bathrooms. There is also central air and a washer/dryer on the property. The complex also has a pool and a fire pit where bonfire meetings are frequently held. Meals are up to the client to purchase and prepare.
Rules and Regulations
Clients make a six month commitment to Sunlight of the Spirit in order to learn how to live a life as a sober person and gain some independence. Throughout their stay, the women attend AA and NA meetings, get a sponsor, attend sober events and outings and work the steps.
Clients are referred to outpatient programs or therapists during their stay as an extra layer of support. They attend treatment as often as they need and set treatment goals. Aftercare programs are also planned prior to leaving the facility.
There encouragement to get a job, go to school or volunteer. Keeping each of the units clean is required, as are regular drug screens.
There is a staff member on site 24 hours a day.

Sunlight of the Spirit emphasizes the importance of realizing that getting sober is just the beginning. It’s staying sober that is the challenge. The longer term commitment to the program allows for clients to really see what it is like to live in recovery and rediscover themselves during the process. In addition to the structure, clients also explore their spiritual side and have an opportunity to get in touch with their higher power.
