Sundance Behavioral Healthcare has a network of facilities throughout the Dallas metro area in Arlington, Garland and Fort Worth, Texas. Sundance provides inpatient and outpatient treatment services for adolescents and adults. The Arlington inpatient program specializes in teens and adults with metal health and substance abuse issues. Each program plan is individualized and evidence based that includes group and individual therapy, recreational therapy, and medication management. Treatment modalities are evidence based and include an aftercare program as well.
Accommodations and Food
The inpatient program houses up to 116 clients in the private, free standing hospital building. Clients reside in double occupancy bedrooms with en suite full bathrooms. Since the inpatient tracks is generally short, typically between a week to 12 days, clients don’t need to bring a lot with them. All linens are provided and laundry services are taken care of upon request. Though it is a hospital setting the facilities are set up to be comfortable and fairly spacious for the duration of the clients stay. The adults and adolescents are separated in the building and don’t interact during treatment.
There is a cafeteria on site where clients have a few choices per meal time daily. In special circumstances if the client can’t leave their room, food is brought to them.
Treatment and Staff
The inpatient program is mainly for clients who are in the midst of a crisis and need stabilization or detox services, either due to mental health or from substance abuse. Even though on average the stay is around a week, the programs are individualized and a longer stay may be permitted. The ultimate goal at Sundance is that all clients complete the initial inpatient stage and step down to their outpatient program, and eventually to aftercare.
Programming is evidence based using elements of CBT, Solution Focused Therapy and art therapy methods. There are several daily group therapy sessions that deal with self esteem, coping skills, relapse prevention, communication and anger management. There are also regular individual therapy session and the frequency differs from client to client. Additionally there are process groups, psychoeducational lectures and group sessions, and opportunity for therapeutic recreational activities.
The younger clients stay current with their schooling while in treatment and the education coordinator connects with the client’s school to make sure they receive their work and are given enough time daily to complete it.
The multidisciplinary team at the Arlington facility includes physicians, psychiatrists, RNs, Master’s-level behavioral therapists, LMFTs and mental health technicians.
Clients can smoke in designated areas, and there are four smoke breaks built into treatment every day. Visitation hours take place three days a week for one hour at a time.
The inpatient program at Sundance Arlington is focused mainly on getting each client stabilized and ready to step down to less intensive treatment. This misdone in a comfortable environment with specialized mental heath therapy and medical care. The hospital is focused on the best results for clients and their families, which makes it an excellent option in the DFW area.
