The Basics
Sundance Behavioral Healthcare offers three locations throughout Northern Texas which offer adult outpatient treatment programs for mental health and chemical dependency. Outpatient tracks include a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults ages 18 and older. The outpatient programs are comprised of evidence-based therapeutic approaches and can serve as primary care for those who don’t need residential care or as a step-down program from the inpatient treatment offered through Sundance as well.
Treatment and Staff
The adult outpatient programs vary from the adolescent treatment offered through this facility because of the two levels. The PHP and IOP both run five days a week, however the IOP requires fewer hours daily. Both levels of treatment consist of group and individual therapy, and can include medication management and dual diagnosis support.
The PHP is a four to six week long program with clients in treatment from 9 am to 1 pm daily. There are up to four hours per day of therapy in the adult track, and a number of psychoeducational classes and lectures. IOP is two to three days a week for three hours a day. Groups focus on relapse prevention, health and wellness, self esteem, emotion regulation and life skills. There are also mindfulness sessions and clients learn how to handle stress and manage their anger.
Treatment modalities include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Stages of Change, and expressive therapy methods, like art and music therapy. There are recreational opportunities included in the day treatments as well.
Throughout each client’s time in the outpatient program they work with their counselors to put together an aftercare plan, which may include continuing treatment through therapy. Though treatment is not based on the 12-steps, Sundance does encourage clients to find a support community, which could be with AA, NA or SMART Recovery, and can offer referrals for those meetings.
There is a multidisciplinary team of clinicians at Sundance that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, nursing staff, LMFTs, LCSWs and mental health techs.
Extras
Additionally individualized case management is provided. This can include medical services, assistance with vocational training or housing placement. Transportation to and from the outpatient treatment can be provided with several pick up and drop off locations throughout the community.
There are family counseling services offered during the outpatient treatment. Aftercare doesn’t typically take place at Sundance, but rather the staff can refer to clients to counseling centers for continued care.
