Sundance Behavioral Healthcare offers inpatient and outpatient programs to treat mental health and chemical dependency in three different locations in northern Texas. The adolescent outpatient program is for those who are between the ages of 12 and 17. It provides individualized attention and evidence-based treatment approaches. This program is typically for clients who were part of the inpatient program and are stepping down to less intensive services. Treatment is mainly group based, though there are individual sessions and family therapy services offered as well medication management options.
Treatment and Staff
The adolescent outpatient program generally runs four to six weeks, though every client has a personalized treatment plan, and in some cases it’s possible to remain in treatment longer. These programs are ideal for those who have struggled with behavioral concerns like acting out in school, suicidal thoughts or other self harm tendencies for example, or are dealing with co-occurring disorders.
Clients have a very structured daily treatment schedule that runs Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Each day consists of up to three hours of group therapy, and clients are divided by their age and developmental level. These groups address self esteem, anger management and learning how to handle different emotions. Additionally there are psychoeducation classes that focus on life skills training, stress management, conflict resolution and learning healthy habits.
Treatment is based on evidence based methods, like CBT, DBT and Stages of Change. Dual diagnosis clients have access to relapse prevention classes, medication management and nursing services. Throughout treatment, clients work with their therapists to design an individualized aftercare plan.
Treatment programs in the adolescent track at Sundance are provided by a multidisciplinary team of therapists, psychiatrists, RNs and mental health techs.
Extras
Family therapy is an integral aspect to the adolescent track. There are also holistic programming options, like art and music therapy, recreational therapy and experiential learning options.
Transportation services are provided for clients who need help getting to the facility daily. And for school aged clients there is an educational coordinator and an accredited program that works with the clients so that they don’t fall behind in their classes.
