The Basics
Located in Chicago suburb of Northbrook, Illinois, SunCloud Health is a behavioral health organization that offers outpatient-based treatment to clients struggling with addiction, co-occurring disorders and additional mental illnesses. All plans are individualized and have clients working with a multidisciplinary team to develop well-rounded care plans addressing a range of needs. Depending on their preferences, participants can attend outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) or Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) as necessary.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial consultation and bio-psycho-social screening to help staff members determine their needs. Although on-site detox services are not available, those in need can get referrals to nearby programs. Once stabilized, clients attend one of the three outpatient tracks. The most flexible is standard outpatient, which can fit any schedule. IOP is offered for adults and adolescents and meets from noon to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday and 3:45 to 7:15 pm Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. PHP is most intensive and meets from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, five days a week—its focus is primarily for clients with co-occurring disorders.
Clients can expect to attend individual, group and family sessions rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT, EMDR and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dual diagnosis support and medication management are both available as necessary. In addition to the clinical approaches, the organization also uses holistic and experiential therapies which may include Somatic Experiencing, yoga, body image therapy, meditation and mindfulness training. Clients are also strongly encouraged to work a 12-step program, with principles of AA used in the main curriculum as well. Groups cover many topics including interpersonal skills, stress management, relationships, life skills, relapse prevention and other rotating topics.
The staff at SunCloud Health is wide-ranging and includes psychiatrists, LCSWs, CADCs, LPCs, dietitians, RNs, case managers and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Other services include groups focused on more specific topics such as Jewish Spirituality and Sex, Love and Relationships, each offered on a rotating basis. SunCloud Health can also coordinate their plans with clients’ other medical and psychiatric care professionals as necessary. Once participants complete a program, they can also work with staff to develop stepped down aftercare plans as well.
