The Basics
Summit Estate offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Saratoga, California, a twenty-minute drive from San Jose. Summit Estate’s outpatient program, like its luxury residential and detox programs in nearby Los Gatos, prides itself on providing first-rate treatment in a lavish, home-like setting. Summit Estate was founded by a family of recovery professionals and expanded its services to include outpatient treatment in 2013.
Treatment and Staff
Clients enrolled in the IOP attend treatment three times per week from 6 to 9 pm in the evening. Sessions include group therapy using CBT and DBT as well as individual therapy that is scheduled as-needed—usually once per week. Clients also have access to holistic treatments such as expressive art therapy and yoga.
Clients typically stay enrolled in the IOP for 12 weeks and many clients step down to this track after completing primary treatment at Summit Estate’s nearby residential facility. Groups may include 15 to 20 participants. While attendance of 12-step meetings is not required of Summit Estate IOP clients, many clients choose to attend them on their own.
The treatment team includes MFTs, Master’s-level Social Workers, Registered Recovery Workers (RRWs) and CADCs. Therapists can treat clients with dual diagnosis though they must also meet with an outside psychiatrist for medication management.
Extras
A unique feature of Summit Estate’s IOP are nightly dinners prepared by a gourmet chef. Before treatment sessions, clients have the opportunity to share a delicious and healthy meal in the facility’s light-filled common area that features an open floor-plan with leather couches and chairs. Once a month, clients are invited to a Discussion Dinner shared by residential and outpatient clients as well as alumni. This fellowship allows current and former clients to support each other’s recovery and to develop a sober community to sustain them post-treatment.
Clients who have completed the IOP can also attend a Wednesday evening continuing care meeting for up to one year. There is no additional charge for this basic aftercare program.
Summit Estate endorses family participation as an essential component to long-term success in recovery. Families and loved ones are encouraged to attend group and individual therapy to the extent the treatment team feels it’s beneficial to the resident. Families receive education on addiction and how to facilitate and support recovery after clients return home. Summit Estate also offers intervention services for families looking to direct their loved one into treatment.
